InterBase Features

The Lightweight Database
with Top-of-the-Line Security

Secure

Over-the-Wire and Data-at-Rest Encryption

Data security is non-negotiable. A single breach can damage your reputation, cost customers, trigger regulatory action, and lead to heavy fines.

InterBase 15 takes protection further with AES-256 encryption enabled by default, securing your data both in transit and at rest. Outdated algorithms like DES and older TLS protocols have been retired. Client/server connections now require TLS 1.2 or higher and use OpenSSL 3.5 LTS for modern, long-term supported cryptography. For industries with the strictest compliance needs, InterBase 15 also offers FIPS 140-3 mode, aligning with the latest U.S. government security standards.

Encryption is built into InterBase’s cross-platform single-file architecture, so your data is protected everywhere it resides throughout the development life cycle.

Separate Security Login

Encrypting the database is only the start. Controlling who can see what data is equally important. InterBase enforces this best practice with a dedicated SYSDSO login.

With SYSDSO, visibility is defined at the column level, so you can decide exactly who can view, search, or update sensitive fields. Even developers cannot bypass these rules unless explicitly authorized by your Data Security Officer. This built-in approach drastically reduces the risk of breaches as your system evolves, since data visibility is enforced at the database layer, not in application code.

Role-Based User Security

Different roles require different levels of access and InterBase makes this simple. Define user security roles that align with job responsibilities (for example, accountant, sales manager, HR), then assign users to one or more roles as needed.

Access rights cover both data and Change Views, making it easy to control not just who sees data but also who can track and act on changes. With InterBase 15, you get strong, built-in role-based security without the need to code and maintain it yourself.
